Clear Channel Country “Kissin’ 102.1” KZSN Wichita relaunched as “102.1 The Bull” at noon today.
Launching with 10 days of commercial-free music, the station is joining many of its brethren in shifting to a younger-skewing current intensive variation of the Country format.
The move also coincides with Bobby Bones’ last day on sister CHR “Channel 96.3” KZCH before he relaunches his program for Country stations later in February. While not yet announced, KZSN will likely be his new home in Wichita as current morning co-host Cathy Carrier has departed 102.1 with the Bull relaunch. She will join Connoisseur Media’s Variety Hits “97.1 Bob-FM” KIBB.
As Rob Zerwehk mentions to us on Twitter, the rebranding of KZSN comes less than one week away from the station’s 27th anniversary in the Country format. “Kissin’ 102.1” debuted on Valentines Day 1986.
In the Fall 2012 ratings, KZSN was the fourth ranked Country station in the Wichita market with a 3.4 share.. Journal’s 101.3 KFDI-FM led the market overall at 10.4. Connoisseur’s “100.5 The Wolf” KVWF was ninth overall with 4.1 and Journal’s “Classic Country 92.3” KFTI held a 3.7 share.
They keep promoting Bones’ move on air. Plus, he did announce it during his press conference on Monday.
