We start our semi-regular look at FCC applications in Boston where Horizon Christian Fellowship is looking to relocate 103.7 W279BQ Gloucester, MA to the John Hancock Tower in downtown Boston. If approved, the translator will operate with 10 watts. It is currently licensed to rebroadcast Christian “Renew-FM” 90.1 WRYP Wellfleet, MA.
Translators have had a hard time completing upgrades in Detroit due to its proximity to the Canadian border and tight spacing to nearby markets. That isn’t stopping EMF from making an attempt to increase the signal at its 98.3 W252BX. The translator has applied to upgrade to a directional 250 watts pointed directly towards downtown Detroit from its current 170 watt license. With the change, the translator will shift from rebroadcasting a subchannel of CBS’ 98.7 WDZH to Clear Channel’s 92.3 WMXD-HD2, which is used to feed EMF’s “K-Love” programming to other translators in greater Detroit.
A battle has broken out between a pair of competing stations targeting Indian and Pakistani audiences in Central New Jersey. Rahul Walia’s 104.7 W284BW Franklin Township has switched from simulcasting Classical 89.1 WWFM Trenton to “Hum Desi Radio” fed by 97.1 WQHT-HD2 New York and also heard on 100.7 W264BT Edison. The 104.7 translator and Class D WPDI Hazlet, which airs a competing “Radio Asia” format are close enough to potentially interfere with one another. In order to alleviate the potential interference WPDI, which was displaced from 89.3 to 104.7 last year, has applied to relocate again to 103.9. It would continue to operate with the same facilities of 10 watts at 87 meters.
With its previous Construction Permit expiring earlier this month, Cochise Broadcasting is making another attempt to move 101.7 KKYZ Sierra Vista, AZ into the Tucson market. The station will operate as a Class C3 on 101.1 with 24kW at 49 meters. Concurrently, co-owned 100.9 K265CW has applied to relocate to 105.9 where it will operate with 50 watts and rebroadcast Adult Standards 690 KCEE.
Truth Broadcasting’s 105.7 W289BD Raleigh, NC is seeking an upgrade from 115 to 250 watts. The translator currently rebroadcasts “Truth” 1030 WDRU Creedmoor, via Radio-One’s 103.9 WNNL-HD3.
Fred & Evelyn Morton’s 96.5 K243BJ Oklahoma City has been granted a Construction Permit to relocate to the northern part of the city where it will operate with 145 watts at 291 meters. The translator will rebroadcast Tyler Media’s 1560 KEBC.
Cumulus Classic Rock “106.3 The Surf” KRRF Oak View, CA has completed its relocation from the Santa Barbara market down to Oxnard/Ventura. The station now operates with 960 watts at 252 meters from a tower in Ventura proper but no longer puts a city-grade signal over Santa Barbara.
The Alabama Broadcast Media Page has a rundown on the many translator moves going on in the Mobile and Pensacola, FL markets.
correction:
W252BX 98.3 is already broadcasting KLOVE programming ( WMXD HD2 ) for years now.
