Update 10/11: At noon today, Clear Channel pulled off a three station format swap in the Hampton Roads. The Classic Hits format of “Cool 92.1” WCDG Moyock, NC becomes “Magic 105.3” displacing Urban AC “105.3 Kiss-FM“. The Kiss format moves to 92.1 and 107.7 WJCD, which displaces Smooth Jazz as well.
The move places Classic Hits on the stronger 105.3 frequency, while moving the Urban AC format back to 107.7 where it resided until 2001 as “Vibe 107.7“. 92.1 and 107.7 had simulcasted as AC “Lite-FM” from March 2004 until August 2005.
Original Report 7/27: Clear Channel Urban AC “105.3 Kiss” WKUS Norfolk/Virginia Beach appears to be on the verge of a rebranding or outright flip. Two new domains have appeared on Clear Channel’s servers pointing to a change at the station. Magic1053Online.com and MyMagic1053.com are both in the development stage with definite plans for usage in Virginia. WKUS was far behind fellow Urban AC “95.7 R&B” in the Winter book, but Norfolk/Virginia Beach will go live with the PPM in October.
VARTV’s Bob Corbin points out that WKUS and sister 107.7 WJCD recently swapped Cities of License, allowing 107.7 to upgrade from a Class A to a B1 with full market coverage. WKUS is now licensed to Windsor, VA.
