Gen X Coming To St. Louis?

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
December 26, 2010

Gen X GenX St. Louis Saint Louis 93.7 The Bull KSD 100.3 The Sound WSDD

Update 12/26: Exactly one year to the minute after “100.3 The Sound” debuted, the station has shifted to 90’s based Oldies “Gen X Radio 100.3“.

The first hour consisted of:
2 Unlimited – Get Ready For This
Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit
New Order – True Faith
Len – Steal My Sunshine
Aerosmith – Janie’s Got A Gun
Hootie & The Blowfish – Only Wanna Be With You
Bell Biv Devoe – Poison
Coldplay – Speed Of Sound
Motley Crue – Girls, Girls, Girls
Sheryl Crow – Strong Enough
Depeche Mode – Enjoy The Silence
Goo Goo Dolls – Name
Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby
Counting Crows – Mr. Jones

Original Report 12/17: We know CBS Soft AC 102.5 KEZK St. Louis will relaunch as “Fresh 102.5” on December 27, however the changes may not end there in the Gateway City. Clear Channel may be matching CBS’ flip with one of its own. Over the past few weeks we’ve seen anonymous registrations made for GenX1003.com, GenXSaintLouis.com, and GenXStLouisOnline.com. Most recently GenXStLouis.com was registered by Joey Bond, the Nashville based Regional Online Content Manager for Clear Channel.

100.3 would be Modern AC “100.3 The Sound” which has yet to gain any traction since its flip from Urban last year. Sister station “93.7 The Bull” KSD has dropped its regular Country format for Christmas music, which warrants watching as well.

Instant Insight: With the rebranding at KEZK and sister Adult CHR “Y98” KYKY beginning to shift towards CHR, there could soon be quite a battle for adult audiences in St. Louis. How Clear Channel will make its move on this chess board will be one of the stories to watch in early 2011.

The smarter thing to do is flip 100.3 back to Urban and put GenX on 93.7. However, that will cost The Sound, which I have enjoyed since its beginning.

I was very disappointed to found out the Sound was off the air this morning, I have been a loyal listener all year. I guess its back to downloading music and listening to my ipod in the car.

I too am very bummed!!! I just moved to this area from the east coast and was happy to be able to stay current with new music. Especailly liked mondays with listener requested songs and acoutic tuesdays. Haven’t liked gen-x playlist at all.

I love The Sound and they had to take away the one good thing STL had on the radio. I’ve tried listening the GenX and it a weak version of The Sound.

I am still shocked that they changed The Sound to GenX Radio whose playlist is too old and just a combination of the stations we already had! The Sound was the only station that provided FRESH, new modern music to listeners and expanded our limited music and artist selection played on local stations. Radio producers take note, St. Louis would LOVE to have a station similar to The Sound asap!!!

I too liked the sound, but I love Gen X!!! Finally are generation has a voice!!! I have been a long listener of another modern rock station in st. Louis, but now have to listen to this emo and screaming crap. The only time I listen to them now is when they play the type of music that Gen X has every day!! Thank you for this station!!!
