Update 3/24: Entercom has appplied for the KMBZ-FM call letters for 98.1. The switch to News/Talk on 98.1 will take place Wednesday, March 30 at 2:00pm.

Original Report 3/23: Entercom has flipped “Gen X Radio” 99.7 KGEX Kansas City to Bright AC “99.7 The Point” positioned as “Today’s Best Music”.

Entercom will also be flipping AC “Soft Rock 98.1” KUDL to a simulcast of sister News/Talk 980 KMBZ. NewsRadio98.com and NewsRadio981.com were recently registered using Entercom’s usual domain registrar. KUDL is directing its listeners to 99.7 and will simulcast on both frequencies on Monday, March 28 through Wednesday, March 30 before 98.1 debuts its new format.

The move consolidates the AC audience that before Christmas had been split between KUDL, KGEX, and Wilks Broadcasting’s 102.1 KCKC, which flipped to Adult Alternative on January 3.

99.7 has seen a rotating series of formats over the past few years since flipping from Classic Rock “99.7 KY” in January 2008. It has since spent time as AAA “The Boulevard“, Adult CHR “Kiss-FM“, and most recently as 90’s “Gen X Radio“.
