Update 8/5: After stunting for a week with Christmas music, 105.3 WJSJ flipped to 80s centric Classic Hits today as “105.3 The Mix“. While the website is not live yet the station is streaming here.
A sweeper we heard branded the station as “Old School Music That’s Fun To Listen To” taking aim at Cox Urban Oldies “Hot 106.5“.
Original Report 7/28: As bankruptcy receiver Scott Savage sells off some of the former Tama Broadcasting stations, another one is preparing to launch a new format.
Spanish Tropical “Caliente 105.3” WJSJ Fernandina Beach/Jacksonville dropped its format this afternoon and began stunting with Christmas music. In explaining the motives behind the change to their listeners on Facebook, the station stated it was lack of advertiser support that did the former format in.
In terms of what’s next, Fun105.com and Fun1053.com were registered by station OM Joel Widdows earlier this month. Based on the current makeup of the market, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a Classic Hits format.
