Update 2/12: “Air-1” debuted on 101.7 at 4:00pm today.
Update 2/8: KTCY has gone dark in preparation of EMF taking over operations of the station. EMF reserved the KYDA call letters for the coming Christian CHR “Air-1” format.
Original Report 11/5: EMF Broadcasting, owners of the Christian AC “K-Love” and Christian CHR “Air-1” networks will soon launch one of them in parts of the Dallas/Fort Worth market.
The company has acquired Spanish AC “Baila 101.7” KTCY Azle TX from Liberman Broadcasting for $6 Million. The station rimshots the market from the northwest, putting a city grade signal over the suburban communities of Denton, Flower Mound, and Gainesville with a weaker signal in Fort Worth but non-existant in Dallas proper.
With CBS owned Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV owning the “K-Love” name in the Dallas market, our assumption is that 101.7 will run with the Air-1 Network when EMF takes over.
Following the sale, Liberman will retain its five other stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Glad to see Air 1 expanding. I really like this network. It’s not your average Christian format. It’s targeted at younger people, and a lot of crossover artists got their start and are/were played on this network (Red, NEEDTOBREATHE, Owl City, Switchfoot, Mat Kearney, P.O.D., Skillet, among others)
