KRDJ Sold To Bible Broadcasting

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
July 31, 2014

Rock 93.7 KRDJ New Iberia Lafayette Baton Rouge Last Bastion Trust Bible BroadcastingUpdate 7/31: KRDJ will end its Rock format at sometime after the sale closes on Friday morning.

When Bible Broadcasting closes on KRDJ, The Lafayette Daily Advertiser reports the station will go dark until the Fall while studio repairs are made.

A pair of KRDJ’s staffers are transferring to Cumulus’ “Rock 101” 101.3 KKGB Lake Charles. Morning host Jace Edwards will host afternoons at KKGB, while middayer Rach will fill the same shift there.

Update 6/9: The sale contract has been filed with the FCC.

Bible Broadcasting Network will pay Last Bastion $1,775,000 for KRDJ and assumption of its tower site lease.

Original Report 6/6: The Last Bastion Station Trust has sold Active Rock “Rock 93.7” KRDJ New Iberia, LA to Bible Broadcasting Network.

The sale application has not yet been filed with the FCC, however BBN has filed to convert KRDJ from commercial to non-commercial status with a main studio waiver to have the station serve as a repeater of BBN’s 930 WYFQ Charlotte, NC.

KRDJ serves both the Baton Rouge and Lafayette markets with its 100kW ant 296 meter signal originating halfway between the two markets. The divestiture trust has held the station for nearly seven years since being formed in 2007 following then Citadel Broadcasting’s acquisition of ABC Radio from Disney. The trust still holds 102.1 KOKY and 102.5 KPZK-FM in the Little Rock market and 105.3 KINB in the Oklahoma City market.

Why would it go dark if it’s a repeater of another station? Do they still need a studio?

I live in Charlotte, WYFQ-930 is a station I never hear anywhere. I don’t know anyone who listens to it. Most listen to the Contemporary Christian mostly music stations WRCM and WMIT. Not just kids but also people in their 50’s. WYFQ (BBN) seems to program to the 70+ age group and not very many of them are listening.

Yeah Mike they have 90.9 KYFS here in San Antonio and I’ve never heard anything about it… other than it itself on the air with 100,000 watts. I hope BBN really adjusts their programming and makes it younger.
