American University’s Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU Washington, DC is expanding southward into the adjacent Fredericksburg, VA market.
The school is purchasing 89.5 WWED Spotsylvania, VA and its booster in Fredericksburg from Educational Media Corporation for $375,000. American University also owns 88.3 WRAU Ocean City, MD and translators in Frederick and Hagerstown that rebroadcast WAMU.
WWED and its sister 91.7 WWEM Rustburg/Lynchburg most recently aired a Classical format billed as “Classics Radio“. The stations went dark last July when the format transitioned to an online operation.
WWEM is being sold to Pathway Christian Academy for $136,000. Pathway operates the Christian “GoMix Radio Network” on eight stations in North Carolina. If approved, WWEM will become a rebroadcaster of WAGO Snow Hill, NC.
