Station Sales Week Of 9/30: KAHM Goes To La Campesina

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
September 29, 2017

102.1 KAHM Prescott Phoenix La Campesina Cesar Chavez FoundationThe Cesar Chavez Foundation’s Farmworker Educational Radio Network is continuing its growth in Phoenix with the purchase of Southwest FM Broacasting’s Beautiful Music 102.1 KAHM and 101.7 K269EE Prescott and Southwest Broadcasting’s Talk 1490 KYCA/97.1 K246BI/103.5 K278CN Prescott AZ for $2.5 million through a new Phoenix Radio Broadcasting holding company.

Phoenix Radio Broadcasting will pay $1.7 million for KAHM and K269EE and $800,000 for co-owned KYCA/K246BI/K278CN. KAHM holds a Construction Permit to relocate to Spring Valley AZ from the tower utilized by Riviera Broadcasting’s “Power 98.3” KKFR Mayer with 25.5kW/852m that requires the move of 94.3 KBUX Quartzsite AZ to 96.5 (now completed) and 101.9 KVGG Salome to 96.5. The buyer will also take on the costs of those moves.

Combined with the combo of recently acquired 860 KNAI Phoenix and 101.9 K270BZ Phoenix will allow the group to cover the entire Phoenix market with full-time commercial signals for its Regional Mexican “La Campesina” network as opposed to its current noncommercial time-share on 88.3 KNAI-FM. The sale of KAHM eliminates one of the last remaining Beautiful Music stations.

Community Communications Inc., owner of Public News/Talk 90.7 WMFE-FM Orlando FL, will expand to Ocala with the purchase of Daystar Public Radio Jazz/Standards “89.5 The Boulevard” WKSG Cedar Creek for $900,000.

Gary Schwedt and James Schubert’s Rocky Mountain Radio Group will acquire Alternative “97.7 The Zephyr” KZYR Avon and AAA “104.7 The Mile” KKVM Vail CO from Cool Radio Inc. for $1 million.

Scott Hennen and Steven Hallstrom are buying out the other five partners in Bakken Beacon Media LLC and its Conservative Talk “1100 The Flag” WZFG Dilworth MN/Fargo ND and “1090 The Flag” KTGO Tioga ND. Hennen will increase his equity stake from 22.6% to 50%, while Hallstrom purchases a 50% stake as Gregory Butler, Eugene Graner, Fred Evans, Kathleen Neset, and Walter Grotte sell their combined 77.4% stakes for $538,130.

Rich Broadcasting sells 102.9 KOUW Island Park ID to Ted Austin’s Snake River Radio for the $163,290.69 remaining on Rich’s promissory note to Austin for the 2011 purchase of 102.1 KCHQ Driggs ID for $535,000.

Mariana Broadcasting is donating Oldies “North Jersey 1500” WGHT Pompton Lakes NJ to the Borough of Pompton Lakes.

Hellinger Broadcasting sells Silent 1590 WABV Abbeville SC to Ramon & Maria Sanchez’ R & M Christian Broadcasting for $50,000.

Torres Media Group sells its CP for 93.3 in Muleshoe TX to Vance Barbee’s New Star Broadcasting for $10,000.

Ted Tucker’s Cochise Community Radio Corporation and Cochise Media Licenses continues its FCC mandated donations of ten stations as the following stations have been surrendered to the following groups:

  • 90.1 KDNM Reserve NM – KUTE Inc.
  • 95.5 KFMR Ballard UT – Hi-Line Radio Fellowship
  • 97.1 KTWY Shoshoni WY – University of Wyoming
  • 100.9 KHSK Allen NE – Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska
  • 101.9 KZNM Milan NM – KUTE Inc.
  • 102.9 KXWY Hudson WY – University of Wyoming
  • 106.5 KWWY Shoshoni WY – University of Wyoming
  • 107.9 KZLM Lewistown MT – Hi-Line Radio Fellowship
  • Cochise donated 90.9 KSFQ Thatcher AZ to Good News Radio Broadcasting last week but must still 101.3 KXMK Oatman/Kingman AZ to satisfy the FCC’s Consent Decree with Tucker.

Richburg Educational Broadcasters sells Christian AC “Shine 88.7” WBIJ Saluda SA/Augusta GA to Radio Training Network for $159,168. WBIJ has already flipped to a simulcast of the buyers’ 88.3 WAFJ Belvedere SC/Augusta.

    Translator Sales

Michael Celenza sells 96.9 W245BA Manorville NY to Michael Aliffi’s W245BA Inc. for $150,000. W245BA will rebroadcast VMT Media’s recently acquired 107.1 WLIR-FM Hampton Bays.

Ben Stinson sells 92.3 K222CP Durango CO and 99.3 K257DQ Farmington NM to American General Media’s Winton Road Broadcasting for $500. Both translators already rebroadcast American General Media properties as K222CP rebroadcasts CHR “99X” 99.7 KKDG Durango and K257DQ carries Country “97.9 Kiss Country” KISZ Cortez.

Two Rivers Broadcasting acquires 102.7 K274BH Valley City ND from Lance Knudsen for no consideration. K274BH will rebroadcast Rock “103.1 The Raven” KRVX Wimbledon ND.
