Opie Joe Rises To WCYQ/WNOX Program Director

SummitMedia Knoxville has promoted Brian ‘Opie Joe’ Creason to Program Director of Country “100.3 The Wolf” WCYQ Oak Ridge and Classic Hits “Awesome 93.1” WNOX Karns TN.

Opie Joe has been with the cluster since 2011 most recently serving as Music Director and afternoon host at WCYQ. He fills the programming opening created by the departure of cluster Operations Manager Scott Gaines in August after nine months with the company. He previously hosted mornings at the station when it was known as “Q100.3” until its 2019 rebranding. Prior to joining WCYQ, Creason had stints at WAME and WFMX Statesville NC, WYYD Lynchburg VA, and WSLC-FM Roanoke VA.

SummitMedia LLC today named Opie Joe as the new Program Director for WCYQ and WNOX in Knoxville, Tenn. Opie will lead the imaging, content, promotions, and branding for the two stations, including streams, on-demand content, digital assets, and social media.
Opie has been in the Knoxville cluster for over a decade, serving as an on-air personality and music director for 100.3 The Wolf. His new role expands to include programming duties at Awesome 93.1.

“Opie’s passion for our business and relationships in the Country music and Knoxville community are invaluable. He brings great energy, a diverse skillset, and forward-thinking, which makes him perfectly suited to bring both stations and our digital assets to a new level,” said Randy Chase, SummitMedia’s Executive Vice President.

“I’m beyond excited to take this next step in my career with SummitMedia,” Opie said. “My family and I moved to Knoxville 11 years ago and never imagined it would lead to this incredible opportunity to grow in my profession and serve the East Tennessee listeners.”

Opie is actively involved in Second Harvest Food Bank, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Young-Williams Animal Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and East Tennessee Kidney Foundation. Before joining SummitMedia in 2011, he worked at Mel Wheeler in Roanoke, Vir. and Audacy in Greensboro, N.C.
