Mega Gets Austin Dancing

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
December 13, 2010

Mega 103.5 HD2 102.7 K274AX 105.5 KBPA KXMG Austin Emmis

Update 12/13: It appears that Mega’s placement on 102.7 was a stunt to generate recognition of the Dance format and HD Radio. As of today the 102.7 translator has begun simulcasting AAA 93.3 KGSR, which had been promising a boost to its in market signal following its move from 107.1 last year.

Original Report 12/1: Emmis has utilized the growing HD2 to translator movement to add an additional station to the Austin, TX market. 102.7 K274AX has completed an upgrade to 250 watts at 679 feet giving it city grade coverage of all of Austin proper. With the strong signal in place, Emmis has placed the Dance music format of “Mega 103.5” KBPA-HD2 on the analog signal. This returns the station to the Austin airwaves for the first time since “Mega 93.3” KXMG flipped to Rhythmic CHR in 2003.

The new Mega is also heard on 105.5 K288FJ in Bastrop, about 30 miles due east of Austin. That translator recently received a construction permit to upgrade from 5 watts to 250 watts.

I think it’s really low to fool us into thinking we had a new radio station, simply as a stunt to try to make us buy into “HD radio”. BOOOO!
