Michael Savage To Move To Afternoons In January

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
September 25, 2013

Cumulus Michael Savage 770 WABC New York 890 WLS Chicago 630 105.9 WMAL Washington 820 WBAP Dallas 760 WJR DetroitCumulus Media Networks has announced that Michael Savage’s “Savage Nation” will shift into the afternoon timeslot in January.

Savage will take the 3-6pm Eastern/12-3pm Pacific spot opened up on Cumulus owned stations by Sean Hannity not resigning with the company earlier this month. Cumulus claims that Savage will launch in afternoons on 200+ stations including 60 Cumulus owned stations. Among the affiliates that will be carrying Savage live are 770 WABC New York, 890 WLS Chicago, 820/96.7 WBAP Dallas, 630/105.9 WMAL Washington, 760 WJR Detroit, and 710/103.7 KCMO Kansas City.

Of those stations all currently air Hannity live except for WLS, which carries him from 6-9pm following their local afternoon show hosted by Roe Conn and Richard Roeper.

The full press release follows:

Cumulus Media Networks, with more than 5,500 affiliate radio stations reaching 129 million listeners every week, announces that Michael Savage’s The Savage Nation® will move to the highly coveted 3p-6p ET timeslot beginning in January 2014 – bringing his unique brand of “News, Views and Reviews” to drivetime on top radio stations nationwide.

The Savage Nation® will air on more than 200 affiliates of Cumulus Media Networks, including 60 stations owned and operated by Cumulus. Some of the cities where The Savage Nation® will air during drivetime include: New York (WABC), Chicago (WLS), Dallas (WBAP), Washington (WMAL), San Francisco (KSFO) and WJR (Detroit).

Not limited to politics, Savage has moved millions with his insights, humor and versatility. His PhD from the University of California and his 28 books, including six New York Times bestsellers, have made him ‘the Mark Twain of our time” to many. The Savage Nation® is the number one radio show on the Internet. Savage was awarded the coveted Freedom of Speech Award by Talkers Magazine.

“Mike is a proven ratings winner. Compelling, thought-provoking content is paramount – and Mike delivers show after show,” said John Dickey, Executive Vice President and co-Chief Operating Officer of Cumulus.

“With this important timeslot as well as the iconic Cumulus stations coveted by everyone in radio, I hope to edutain the world. Politics will always be my mainstay but there is so much more to talk about. Breaking news and science, religion, films, books have always been my calling cards. With these new stations, I break out a new deck,” said Michael Savage.
