Update 9/18: With the dissolution of the Classic Hits format, 100.1 WQFN has broken off of its simulcast of 92.1. 100.1 has joined the quartet of frequencies airing “96.1 ESPN Radio” in the region. Those stations include 630 WEJL Scranton, 1240 WBAX Wilkes-Barre, and a pair of translators located at 96.1: W241AZ Clarks Summit and W241BB Wilkes-Barre.
An additional translator 100.5 W263AL Avoca continues to boost “FM 92.1’s” signal in the Scranton portion of the market.
Original Post 9/16: At 5:00pm today, Times-Shamrock Communications flipped Classic Hits “Cool 92.1 & 100.1” WQFM Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA to Modern Rock “Radio 92.1“. New WFUZ calls are in place as well. The shift allows Times-Shamrock to create a wall of men in Northeast Pennsylvania paired with Classic Rock “Rock 107” WEZX and Sports “96.1 ESPN“. No word on the status of 100.1 WQFN at this point. At first listen WFUZ sounds to be taking a page from Clear Channel’s “Radio 104.5” WRFF Philadelphia with a 90’s heavy sound. The first hour of “FM 92.1” consisted of:
R.E.M. – It’s The End Of The World As We Know It
Green Day – Know Your Enemy
Foo Fighters – I’ll Stick Around
Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight, Tonight
The Killers – When You Were Young
Cage The Elephant – Back Against The Wall
