As we reported earlier this month in our Christmas Format Change Watchlist, 97.5 KMVA Phoenix has left behind its “Movin” moniker in favor of “Hot 97.5“. While the station shifts to Adult CHR, the station’s airstaff remains intact. The lineup consists of three syndicated hosts; Elvis Duran in mornings, Ryan Seacrest in middays, and Billy Bush at night, along with local hosts Robert and Nina in afternoons.
The first hour consisted of:
Pink – Raise Your Glass
Daughtry – September
Coldplay – Viva La Vida
Rihanna – Only Girl In The World
Train – Hey, Soul Sister
Adam Lambert – Whataya Want From Me
Plain White T’s – Rhythm Of Love
Nelly Furtado – Say It Right
Jason DeRulo – In My Head
Taylor Swift – Love Story
Neon Trees – Animal
Katy Perry – Firework
Matt Nathanson – Come On Get Higher
Bruno Mars – Just The Way You Are
The Script – Breakeven
Edward Maya – Stereo Love
OneRepublic – Secrets
It appears as if Movin’ 97.5 remains top 40 after all, but as Hot 97.5. The station’s call sign remains intact at this time, and the lower-end demo remains 12, but the station has shifted its upper-end demo downward from 44 to 34, and the station has adopted a more mainstream approach unlike its previous rhythmic-leaning one. As a result, powers now turn over every 1 1/2 hrs. vs. 2 hrs. previously. The format is virtually identical to what Chicago’s Hot 94-7 c. early 90’s might have sounded like today. It’s also the same one that Atlanta’s Star 94 recently reworked earlier this year (now inspired by Chicago’s heritage-based blazin’ “Fresh 105.9”), and the same one that Milwaukee’s Now 97.3 recently adopted. However, I would expect only 21st century music on Hot 97.5, and virtually no pre-21st century stuff though.
