Clear Channel has flipped AC “Lite 102.9” WLYT Charlotte to Variety Hits “102.9 The Lake“.
Positioned as “It’s All About Variety”, the station is launching with 5000 songs in a row.
The move takes WLYT out of direct format competition with CBS’ “K104.7” WKQC. In the May PPM monthly, WKQC was fifth in the market with a 4.9 share while WLYT was 13th with a 3.4.
The first hour of 102.9 The Lake consisted of:
Everclear – Father Of Mine
Kim Wilde – You Keep Me Hanging On
Bad Company – Rock & Roll Fantasy
Train – Drops Of Jupiter
Kajagoogoo – Too Shy
Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
Whitesnake – Is This Love
Del Amitri – Roll To Me
Toto – Hold The Line
Santana / Alex Band – Why Don’t You And I
Bangles – Manic Monday
Chumbawamba – Tubthumping
.38 Special – Hold On Loosely
Heart – All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You
Billy Squier – My Kinda Lover
Nirvana – Come As You Are
Very surprised by this move from Clear Channel. The station was actually not doing bad, competing against WKQC. There were times that it beat WKQC in the Arbitron ratings. Very surprised by this move. Hope it won’t affect it’s listeners…
Can anyone tell me where Valentine and his crew are? Thanks.
Valentine’s show is based at KBIG Los Angeles and can still be heard there and a few other Clear Channel stations, although it was dropped this week at WLIT Chicago.
