106.5 Salt Lake Is Less KOSY

KOSY Today's 106.5 Classic Rock 99.1 Salt Lake CityClear Channel has upgraded the Classic Rock format of “Rock 99.1” K256AE Provo, UT to the full market signal that was home to AC “Today’s 106.5” KOSY Spanish Fork/Salt Lake City.

The new “Rock 106.5” launched this morning displacing the Christmas music heard on KOSY. The 99.1 translator continues to simulcast the Premium Choice fed Classic Rock format for now at least.

In the November PPM monthly, KOSY was fifteenth in the market with a 2.5 share. The translator registered a 0.5 serving about half of the market.

  1. So far this is one of Clear Channel’s better Classic Rockers. I have been listening to it all weekend. 🙂 I wish they could tweak some of their other Classic Rock stations to sound this good. For example KDZA out of Pueblo, KPAW out of Greeley Colorado, and KBRU out of Oklahoma City need some work….the mentioned stations only play one or two good songs every hour. 🙂

  2. I’m glad someone else pointed that out. KDZA,KPAW and KKFM out of the Denver area pretty bad. They don’t need a format switch, they just need a tweaking.

  3. I believe they moved it because the 99.1 frequency will likely have to be vacated soon. KUDE in Nephi is moving from 103.9 to 99.1 and will completely overlap the 99.1 frequency’s coverage, displacing the translator unless they find another frequency for it. So far they have not submitted an application to move K256AE to another frequency. Unless they do, it will likely go dark when KUDE moves to 99.1.

  4. According to the FCC database, KOSY-FM 106.5 changed calls to KAAZ-FM Friday (3/1). The KOSY-FM calls have been moved to Cedar Rapids IA market KWMG 95.7…wonder if that indicates a change is coming to that station (FM simulcast of WMT 600) or being warehoused for somewhere else?

Regarding 95.7 Cedar Rapids, there is now quite a similarity between those KOSY calls and the KKSY calls used on sister “Kiss Country 96.5“.
