Adult CHR “Z93” 93.9 WJXY-FM Conway/Myrtle Beach, SC will flip to a Southern Rock and Country mix on February 1 as “93.9 The Outlaw“.
WJXY, owned by the Volt Radio Trust as a divestiture necessitated by Cumulus’ acquisition of Citadel, debuted the “Z93” format last March when its Sports programming was moved to 100.3 WSEA.
The new format is humorously described on its Facebook page as “93.9 The Outlaw plays a mix of modern country music, blended at will with classic southern rock. Songs of these entirely different formats are played back-to-back. In so doing, the station violates every regulation ever enacted by the Federal Communications Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms , and Head Start.”
A web stream of the new format is already up and running.
The new format brings the station back full circle as it previously featured a similar Southern Rock and Country mix in the mid 90’s as “93X” before Cumulus acquired the station and flipped it to CHR “Hot 93“.
What about WJXY’s simulcast sibling at 93.7?
93.7 WXJY now simulcasts 100.3 WSEA.
Actually, the station was known as 94X when it was Young Country back in the mid-90s.
