On May 6, 2014 the FCC will hold a closed auction of twenty two new AM licenses.
The auction will resolve mutual exclusive applications dating back to a 2003 filing window. Bidding will be limited to the groups who have already applied for the licenses. There are a total of 57 applications that will lead to up to 22 new signals.
Among the licenses available are:
- Rocye International Broadcasting and Levine/Schwab Partnership seek 1500 in Culver City, CA in the Los Angeles market. Royce seeks to operate with 50kW-Day 4.3kW-Night; while Levine/Schwab applied for 25kW-Day 1kW-Night. Royce previously owned the license to now deleted 1500 in Burbank that is had been attempted to relocate to Culver City for the past two decades
- Four bidders are competing for 1700 in Rockland County, NY. Talkline Communications seeks Monsey, Alexander Broadcasting seeks to move 1300 WRCR Spring Valley to 1700 Ramapo, S&B Broadcasting applied for Stony Point as its COL, and Polnet Communications seeks the Town of Haverstraw. All four wish to broadcast with 10kw-D, 1kw-N.
- Multiple signals in greater Las Vegas are up for grabs. 620 has two bidders, 1540 has four bidders, and 1370 has eight bidders with four seeking Las Vegas area licenses (the other four are for Las Vegas NM and three in the Colorado Springs area)
- The mutual exclusiveness of AM signals leads to strange bedfellows. Bidders in Charlottesville VA, Huntsville AL, and Warner-Robins GA are competing for one license, while Adrian MI and Lebanon TN are paired for another.
- Other markets up for new signals include Anchorage, Harrisburg, Norfolk, Orlando, Reno, and Williamsport
