L&L Broadcasting is returning ESPN Radio to Columbia, SC.

1230 WOIC will drop its mix of local and brokered Talk on January 1 for Sports “ESPN Columbia“.

WOIC had previously carried ESPN programming from 2003 until 2005 when the programming was moved to then sister 93.1 WZMJ. The network programming has been unavailable in Columbia since 93.1 WZMJ was spun-off to Lake Murray Communications in July 2012.

COLUMBIA, S.C., Dec. 27, 2013—Today it was announced that after nearly 17 months, ESPN
Radio will once again be heard over the airwaves of Columbia, S.C. The new location will be
1230 kHz on the AM dial beginning Jan. 1, 2014.

As part of the launch, the station will carry a double header of New Year’s Day bowl games,
including the Capital One Bowl where the South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the Wisconsin
Badgers and the Rose Bowl with Stanford facing Michigan State.

The following week, the station will also carry the Cotton Bowl (Oklahoma State vs. Missouri),
the Orange Bowl (Clemson vs. Ohio State), and the BCS Championship Game (Florida State
vs. Auburn).

“We’re excited to bring the iconic ESPN brand back to the thousands of sports fans in
Columbia,” said Bill McElveen, market manager for the new ESPN Columbia 1230 AM.
“ESPN’s dominance in the sports arena is unparalleled, and we are delighted to be partnering
with them in this venture.”

The lineup of ESPN Columbia 1230 AM will include nationally syndicated shows Mike & Mike in
the Morning (6 a.m. – 10 a.m.), The Herd with Colin Cowherd (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.), and SVP &
Rusillo (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.).

Locally, The Zone hosted by Duane “The Shot Doctor” Everett will air 4 p.m.-6 p.m., and Sports
Hotline with Bobby Gist and Ernest Robinson will be heard 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

In addition, ESPN Columbia 1230 AM will bring listeners every Charlotte Bobcats game
broadcast and a full slate of national NBA games from ESPN Radio.

A new website will launch later in January at www.ESPNColumbia.com, which will showcase
local sports news, schedules, information, as well as national ESPN Radio content. The station
will also stream worldwide directly from the website and to the ESPN Columbia apps on Apple
and Android devices.
