Clear Channel’s 93.3 WODC Ashville/Columbus, OH has dropped its “Oldies 93.3” moniker in favor of its frequency and call letters.
Now branding as “93.3 WODC“, the change comes as the station skews its playlist further into the 1980s with less of a reliance on the 60s and early 70s.
As host Mike Eiland explained to listeners on the station’s website:
Your favorite music is still on, we’re all still on, but we’ve freshened up the sound! Listen up and you’ll hear artists like Madonna, 38 Special, Eurythmics, Tommy Tutone, Pat Benatar, UB40 and Yes! And…also yes…your favorites are still on from Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Chicago, Billy Joel, Bee Gees, America, Eagles, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Diana Ross, Temptations and all things Motown and Beatles! It’s not a format change or a new direction. It’s just…well…freshening up! It’s Columbus’ Greatest Hits
WODC was fourth in the Columbus market with a 5.6 share in the January PPM monthly, down from its market leading 11.4 with Christmas music in the Holiday monthly. The move places the station closer to Saga’s 80s centric “Rewind 103.5/104.3” WNND/WNNP.
Kevin Kirschner, who was laid off in December 2012, will return to his previous afternoon drive slot.
