KAGM Albuquerque Rebrands As Wild 106.7

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
December 28, 2015

Wild Power 106.7 Double J Lyndsie KAGM Albuquerque Santa FeAmerican General Media completed the relaunch of 106.7 KAGC Los Alamos/Albuquerque today as “Wild 106.7“. The relaunch took place at 12:00pm with a shift from an Urban lean to a more pop lean for the station.

As we mentioned in our 12/21 Domain Report, the “Wild” brand has twice been used in the Albuquerque market. From 1997 until 2005 it was heard on 106.3 and 2007 through 2009 on 97.7.

Original Report 12/15: American General Media Rhythmic CHR “Power 106.7” KAGM Los Alamos/Albuquerque has let go of its airstaff and will soon relaunch with a new identity.

Morning host/APD Double J, co-host Lyndsie, Imaging Director/afternoon host Johnny V and MD/night host MQ Party have all exited with the changes. Program Director Picazzo Stevens remains in place. Stevens rejoined AGM as PD of KAGM and sister CHR “Z106.3” KDLW Los Lunas in July after previously holding the PD duties at KAGM and then-Alternative “Area 102.9” KARS in 2014 prior to a mass move of talent from Univision in April 2014.

Departing staffers were told that the station was restructuring and would soon relaunch under new branding while retaining a similar format.

The posted for a “CHR launching in Albuquerque, New Mexico!” on AllAccess. Just a rebranding at Power, or possible move/change at Z106.3 (KLDW) as well?

So Power 106.7 has gone Wild. Guess that means doom for Z106.3 because they’ll cannibalize each other. If they were going to do this they should’ve flip KDLW to another format or adjust the direction.

Wild and Z can’t co-exist? WXKS and WJMN/Boston? KKRZ and KXJM/Portland? KXXM and KZEP/San Antonio (OK, KZEP isn’t doing great right now).. KHFI and KPEZ Austin? WPRO and WWKX Providence?
Those are just the PPM markets…

Here’s the difference: all of those stations have more of a hip hop component, which Power had (PEZ, not so much). Can they co-exist? Yes. But, it might hurt both of them in the long run.

And what happened anyway? Did 100.9 take a chunk out of them, and AGM realized that an imitation of Kiss is the way to go?

The imitation of Kiss is what didn’t work… Power and Kiss sounded alike…

Sure? I’ve listened to Kiss a few times for comparison, and its definitely Rhythmic Pop. Power was the closest thing to Urban before iheart launched it.

I listened to the station and they sound good. Maybe this revamped direction could work.
