Original Report 8/24: Albany Broadcasting is preparing to transition Variety Hits “100.9 The Bridge” WKLI Albany, NY to Rock.
AlbanyRock.com was registered to the company on August 11 and a corresponding Twitter account has appeared at @AlbanyRock1009. We are aware the Twitter account says Albany, Georgia but 100.9 there is a religious translator and the “Rock” name is used by Cumulus’ “Rock 103.5” WJAD. Clearly an attempted decoy.
Since its launch in February 2010, The Bridge has been unable to rise above a 1.3 share. Its previous Soft AC format resided in the mid to upper 3’s before being moved to 590 WROW. A shift to a Rock based format will put the station in direct competition with Townsquare Media’s Active Rock “Q103” WQBK/WQBJ and Clear Channel Classic Rock “PYX 106” WPYX. Albany Broadcasting previously programmed an Active Rock format as “104.9 The Edge” WZMR from February 2006 to February 2010.
WKLI is promoting a Top 1009 song countdown for Labor Day weekend. Seems like a perfect lead-in to a new format.
