Update 3/17: After a weekend of capturing America’s imagination with the loop of “Hot In Herre”, the Bay Area won’t be completely cooling off as Univision officially launched “Hot 105.7“.
Chuy Gomez, who exited Clear Channel’s 106.1 KMEL morning slot last August after twenty years with the station, will join Hot for afternoons. He will be reunited with former co-host DJ Mind Motion, who was let go by KMEL last November.
Positioned as “San Fran’s #1 For The Most Hip Hop & R&B”, the new format is attacking KMEL more than KYLD with an Urban format focusing on Latino listeners much like sister “98.5 The Beat” KBBT San Antonio.

Update 3/15 “Latino Mix” is no more as KVVF/KVVZ began stunting at 3pm Friday with a loop of Nelly’s “Hot In Herre” to preparation of its relaunch as “Hot 105.7“.
A Facebook page for the new format has gone live. Meanwhile the stunting has taken a life of its own online. #Nelly1057 has been trending on Twitter for much of the evening, reaching far beyond the station’s Bay Area footprint.
Looks like @LatinoMix1057's playlist for the night is Nelly, followed by Nelly, then maybe some more Nelly. #Nelly1057

We've joked in the past abt replacing an episode of OTM with the Benny Hill theme on a loop, but this Nelly thing is next level. #Nelly1057

can't believe there is nothing on @CNN about #Nelly1057. it's almost like they don't even care about actual news.

It also shows the power of live, local radio that some people think the stunting may have been caused by someone taking over the station.

Original Report 3/11: On the heels of installing simplified branding at many of its Spanish CHR’s across the country, another Univision station appears poised to make a change.
Hot1007FM.com and Hot1057FM.com have been registered for “Latino Mix” 100.7 KVVZ San Rafael/105.7 KVVF Santa Clara. Based on these registrations along with the registrations of a number of domains made in late December by KYLD/KMEL Promotions and Marketing Director Tony Ng, I would place bets on an English language Rhythmic format competing with Clear Channel’s “Wild 94.9” KYLD and Urban 106.1 KMEL.
Ng registered about a dozen domains centered around the “Beat” moniker including Beat1057.com, Beat1057BayArea.com, Beat1057SF.com, SFBeat1057.com and SFBeat.com.
KVVF/KVVZ registered a 1.4 share in the San Francisco market PPM monthly and a 1.7 share in the San Jose market.

Old School Hip-Hop & R&B
A Rhythmic Hot AC ala WBQT Boston and KHTP Seattle would be the optimal hole between not just Wild and KMEL, but also 99.7 NOW, 98.1 KISQ, and Star 101.3. You’d get the older 25-54 core from the younger leaning stations and carve a unique niche between the rest.
Latino Mix did show in January in the San Francisco book, with a 12+ 1.4 share.
Thank you David, I’m updating the post accordingly. In all the 6+ monthlies published online the station was not listed for whatever reason.
Now the station is stunting “Hot in Here” by Nelly
It looks like they are going after KYLD and KMVQ after seeing that Facebook page. Its really going to be a “Hot” Top 40 war in the Bay Area.
