Sinclair Communications has flipped Rock “96.5 Rocks” W243DJ Norfolk/106.1 WUSH-HD2 Poquoson VA to Soft Oldies “Vintage 96.5“.
Positioned as “Light Rock For The Hampton Roads”, the new format debuted at 12pm with Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Lookin At My Back Door”, Neil Young “Heart Of Gold”, and Archies “Sugar Sugar”. Other core artist will include Chicago, James Taylor, and Simon & Garfunkel.
The previous Rock format had debuted in March 2016 replacing a simulcast of Alternative “96X” WROX Exmore. The “Vintage” brand and format previously was used by Sinclair on 95.5 K238AF Santa Rosa CA in 2014-2015.

“Soft Oldies” (or what I would call “Classic Adult Contemporary”) is going to be a growing format, especially in areas (like Cape Cod, and parts of Florida and Arizona) with large retiree populations.
