GSB Broadcasting relaunched Classic Country “Wow 101.5/87.7” WOWZ-FM Chincoteague VA/WOWZ-LP Salisbury MD as “Cat Country” today.
By 2:00 the stations had reverted to its previous identity as they were served a Cease & Desist Letter by Adams Radio Group. Adams, which owns Country “K107.7” WKHI Fruitland MD in the Salisbury market, had acquired the Maryland trademark for “Cat Country” from Rothschild Broadcasting earlier this year.
Rothschild operated “Cat Country 97.5” WKTT Salisbury until it sold it to RoJo Broadcasting in February and flipped to Urban “Live 97.5“. The IP deal allowed Adams to promote WKHI on WKTT prior to its format change and add midday host EJ Foxx. It now has also prevented GSB from utilizing the “Cat Country” name in the Salisbury/Ocean City market.

Ehhhhh, make the other company froth at the mouth. Just change the imaging to “Pussy Cat Country”, “Wildcat Country”, “Feline Country”, “Kitten Kountry, “Tomcat Country”, “Cougar Country” or some variation of cat names.
