After no bidders came forward in an auction of Daly XXL’s Silent 1510 WMEX Boston on Friday, Ed Perry’s Marshfield Broadcasting Company agreed to pay $125,000 to purchase the license for the station.
The auction on Friday sought a minimum bid of $300,000 plus a ten year lease at $12,000 per month for the station’s current transmitter site. Northeast Radio Watch reports that Perry will need to find a new site for the station as well as new call letters as Daly XXL will retain the WMEX letters albeit with no other station right now to park them on.
WMEX went silent at the end of June as its current lease with the tower site owner expired.
Perry currently owns Silent 1460 WATD Brockton (with translator CP for 101.1) and Full Service AC 95.9 WATD-FM Marshfield MA. In confirming the purchase he told NERW’s Scott Fybush, “I’m excited about the prospect of helping to revive the station I grew up with and truly loved as a kid in Natick. Should be fun and I’m sure there’s a lot of air talent around to fill the frequency with great music and memorable words.”
