Cox Media Group pulled the plug on Christian AC “Spirit 105.7” K289CC/KWEN-HD2 Tulsa and made an abrupt flip to Active Rock “105.7 The Bone” on Friday evening.
The change took place at 6:30pm as the station segued from Chris Tomlin’s “Amazing Grace” to Fozzy’s appropriately titled “Judas”. K289CC registered a 0.7 share in the Fall 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings but failed to cut much into Stephens Media Group’s 94.1 KXOJ. The new format will flank Cox Classic Rock “103.3 The Eagle” KJSR against iHeartMedia Rock 97.5 KMOD.
In a message on the Spirit website, Cox Media Group Tulsa Vice President Cathy Gunther wrote:
It’s never easy to say goodbye to a radio station. For several years, Cox Media Group – Tulsa has had a team of dedicated individuals who poured their love and energy into Spirit 105.7, and it’s extremely difficult to have to move on.
Unfortunately, local research tells us that it no longer makes good business sense to continue to operate 105.7 as a Christian Contemporary station, so we are compelled to make a change.
We are extremely grateful to all of the listeners and clients who joined us on our Spirit journey and extend our sincere thanks for your support.
Best Regards,
Cathy Gunther
