iHeartMedia has flipped Liberal Talk “101.1 The Revolution” W266CP Candler/WKSF-HD3 Old Fort NC to Alternative “Alt 101.1“.
Launching with 10,000 songs in a row, the new format positions itself between iHeartMedia’s “Rock 105.1” WQNS and Saga Communications AAA “98.1 The River” W251AO. The Liberal Talk format on W266CP had relocated from 880 WPEK Fairview in June to make way for ESPN Radio.
iHeartMedia Asheville announced today the debut of the new ALT 101.1, Asheville’s Alternative Rock, effective immediately.
ALT 101.1 will broadcast Alternative music from artists such as Red-Hot Chili Peppers, Mumford & Sons, Foo Fighters and Twenty-One Pilots.
“There is a huge appetite for Alternative music in Asheville,” said Brian Hall, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Asheville. “So many of the artists that you will hear on ALT 101.1 have already performed live in Asheville and I’m excited to know that local fans now have a radio station to listen to their favorite musicians and to call their home.”
“I am thrilled to launch an Alternative station in Asheville, NC,” said Bill McMartin, Area President for iHeartMedia Virginia-Carolina Region. “The Alternative format is an excellent addition to the other formats in the market and truly highlights Asheville’s progressive attitude and eclectic music scene, making ALT 101.1 the perfect addition to the iHeartMedia platform of stations serving the western North Carolina region.”
I like that iHeart’s standard Alt logo here includes a representation of the Great Smoky Mountains.
