After a weekend of stunting with Christmas Music, Verstandig Broadcasting debuted Classic Rock “92.1 The Goat” WIKG Mercersburg PA/Hagerstown MD on the former CHR “92.1 Hits-FM” WNUZ.
Positioned as “The Greatest of All Time”, the station is focusing on music from the 70s and 80s to flank sister Rock “101.5 Bob Rocks” WBHB against Manning Media’s Classic Hits “106.9 The Eagle” WWEG and Alpha Media Classic Rock 94.3 WQCM. The Goat is promoting 20 song blocks between commercials at launch.
Original Report 9/27: Verstandig Broadcasting CHR “92.1 Hits-FM” WNUZ Mercersburg PA/Hagerstown MD has pulled the plug on its format and is currently stunting with Christmas Music as “Kringle 92.1“.
It is unlikely that WNUZ will remain in Christmas music mode through the holiday season and is just stunting for the day or through the weekend. The station has changed call letters to WIKG, which could point out the plan of attack for the new format as the calls are very close to Alpha Media Hot AC “Mix 95.1” WIKZ.
WIKZ happens to be ranked second in the market with a 6.9 share trailing only Verstandig Country 104.7 WAYZ‘s 10.9. WNUZ ranked ninth in the market with a 1.8 share.
The change at WNUZ leaves Alpha’s “Live 96.7” WDLD as the only CHR in the market after beginning the year with three. West Virginia Radio Corp. flipped 97.5 WKMZ Martinsburg WV back to AC “Today’s 97.5” WLTF on May 1 following a Christmas music stunt.
