Cumulus Media has eliminated one of its two Country brands in Boise as 97.9 KQFC is temporarily simulcasting “Kissin 92.3” KIZN to move its audience over to the other frequency.
KQFC had been running a gold based Country format, while KIZN focused on a current based playlist. In the Spring 2019 Nielsen Audio ratings, KQFC held a 2.1 share of the Boise audience while KIZN was at a 2.9. Both trailed Townsquare Media’s “Wow Country 104.3” KAWO’s 3.3 and Impact Radio Group’s “101.9 The Bull” KQBL’s 4.5.
The demise of KQFC also follows a restaffing of KIZN following the exits of KIZN/KQFC Program Director Hank Aaron and KIZN morning hosts Cory Mikhals and Shawnda McNeal in September and the subsequent addition of Chris Matthews as KIZN Program Director and morning co-host.
With the demise of KQFC, evening host Allie Burke moves to middays at KIZN.
No word yet on what new format will debut on 97.9 or when.
