Lazer Broadcasting, operators of forty Spanish language stations in California and Nevada, are expanding into San Francisco with the purchase of 1510 KSFN Piedmont from Mapleton Communications for $200,000.
KSFN was the only Mapleton station not included in its just closed sale to Stephens Media Group.
Lazer owns two stations in the embedded Santa Rosa market north of San Francisco: Spanish Oldies “La Mejor” 104.1 KJOR Windsor and Regional Mexican “Radio Lazer” 107.1 KSRT Cloverdale.
KSFN has alternated between brokered programming and simulcasting Freeform 107.5 KPIG Freedom/Monterey since being acquired by Mapleton in 2005.
The thing that I remember most about this station is that Mapleton downgraded Spokane’s KGA in order to help boost its nighttime power. That said, I think that much of the status that Class A AM stations still enjoy is outdated.
