Cheaspeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting has pulled the plug on Classic Hits “Sunny 102.3” W272CQ Jacksonville FL.
The translator launched in July 2014 as Oldies “102.3 The Beach” rebroadcasting 1600 WQOP. The originating station was changed to iHeartMedia’s 101.5 WSOL-HD2 in January 2017 and the station evolved to 70s/80s based Classic Hits with a rebranding to “Sunny 102.3” in May 2017.
In a reply to a listener the station’s Facebook account wrote, “102.3 has gone to the radio graveyard. I worked hard to sell enough advertisement to keep her alive, but to no avail.”
W272CQ registered a 0.4 share in the September 2020 Nielsen Audio ratings.

What’s next for the station? As far as I know, stations have to give up their license or sell themselves if they discontinue.
