Double Flip Coming In Toronto As Flow 93.5 Moves To 98.7

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
February 9, 2022

Flow 93.5 CFXJ 98.7 CKFG TorontoA major move is taking place in Toronto as Stingray Hip Hop “Flow 93.5” CFXJ-FM Toronto will transfer its format and intellectual property to what is now CINA Radio Group’s Adult R&B “G98.7” CKFG with “Flow 98.7“.

CKFG began stunting at 2pm today with gold based Hip Hop teasing a “Big Announcement Coming Soon” on-air. The first songs heard were Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg’s “Still Dre”, Jay-Z & Kanye West “N***as In Paris”, and Drake ft. Rick Ross “Money In The Grave”. A separate “Flow 93.5” programming feed continues for now, with CKFG promoting an official 98.7 launch on Monday, February 14.

With the shift of the “Flow” brand to 98.7, the music format will be broadened adding more R&B, Soca and Reggae to superserve all Black listeners in Toronto. Most of the current CFXJ airstaff do not appear to be making the move as they have made announcements of their departures including morning hosts Blake Carter and Peter Kash and afternoon host Ricochet.

No details yet on what will replace the Hip Hop format on 93.5.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

Flow 93.5FM, the legendary Toronto radio brand responsible for disseminating hip hop for exactly 21 years, will move to a new home on Monday, February 14, as Flow 93.5 becomes Flow 98.7.

This news comes hot off the heels of a collaboration between the two radio stations. In what will be referred to as the “All New” Flow 98.7, the reimagined station brings together the best of both brands, providing listeners an expanded musical offering.
“Flow 93.5FM has been a powerful brand in the GTA for many years,” said Gary Gunter, General Manager of the “All New” Flow 98.7. “Coupled with the historical legacy of G98.7FM and what it has meant to the Black community, this move demonstrates our commitment to serving Toronto with a radio station that further invests into the tastes, issues, needs and lifestyle of its loyal listeners. We are thrilled to bring together two of the most respected radio stations at 98.7FM.”

Flow 93.5 launched in 2001 after a decade-long campaign for a radio station to serve the Black community of Toronto. Similarly, the “All New” Flow 98.7FM will continue to be “Toronto’s hip hop and R&B” station, playing various genres of music including but not limited to hip hop, rhythm and blues, soca and reggae.

Stingray Radio, owners and operators of the 93.5FM signal and of 100 other radio stations across Canada, will launch a new radio station on that frequency beginning Monday, February 14, 2022.
