WVRC Audio has completed the revamp of its Charleston WV cluster with the launch of Classic Rock “98.7 The Mountain” WCST-FM Pocatalico.
The launch comes after stunting with songs that included names of animals in the title. That was in reference to longtime Charleston personality Steve ‘Animal’ Zubrzycki, who will host mornings on the Mountain. Zubrzycki previously worked at LM Communications’ “Rock 105” WKLC-FM from 1990 to 2003 and later returned as Station Manager from 2007-11. He also briefly served as General Manager for Connoisseur Media’s Huntington WV cluster and has owned a local t-shirt printing business since 2006.
The remainder of the lineup will feature cluster Traffic Manager Matt Murphy in middays, sister Country 97.9 WKKW Morgantown morning co-host Trisha Moore in afternoons, and the syndicated Nights with Alice Cooper in evenings.
The new format targets WKLC-FM, which was tied for first in the market with an 11.0 share in the Fall 2022 Nielsen Audio ratings. It completes a cluster shuffle that began in June with “107.3 KAZ” WKAZ-FM moving to 680 WKAZ/95.3 W237AZ replacing Bloomberg Business programming and then Hip Hop “98.7 The Beat” WRVZ moving to the Class B 107.3 signal last week.
Original Report 7/13: After the move of Hip Hop “98.7 The Beat” WRVZ Pocatalico/Charleston WV to the Class B 107.3 signal that had been home to Country WKAZ-FM on Monday, WVRC Audio is currently stunting on what is now 98.7 WCST-FM.
WCST-FM is stunting with a broad playlist of artists including the Rolling Stones, Luke Bryan, Al Stewart, Katy Perry, and Culture Club. Sister News/Talk 580 WCHS is questioning on whether there is a theme to the music played.
