Red Apple Media will pay $600,000 to acquire 1700 WRCR Haverstraw NY from Alex Medakovich’s Alexander Broadcasting.
The sale filing shows that the deal was originally agreed to in January and finalized in April with Alexander required to make multiple repairs at the station’s transmitter site ahead of closing including removing vegetation growth and trees wraped around or near the guy wires and inside the fence enclosure, adequately ground the equipment rack to the transmitter or station ground, purchase, install and make operational an EAS unit compliant with FCC rules, replace the Delta RF meter with a dual scale, install Starlink for STL, take MRSC measurements, and replace the transmitter air filter.
An LMA to Red Apple Media began with the sale agreement when the station began simulcasting 770 WABC New York.
Despite the sale agreement being filed, Medakovic posted to the station website on May 17 claiming that any report of the station was sold being “Fake News” likely on the pretense that the deal hadn’t closed, but also trying to discredit all the reports.

WRCR, which had been carrying a mix of Talk and AC, has flipped to a simulcast of Red Apple Conservative Talk 770 WABC New York for now. Red Apple Media General Counsel Emily Panklow told the Rockland/Westchester Journal News, “Yes, for the time being, the station will simulcast WABC and plans to have local programming serving the community.”
WRCR super-served suburban Rockland County NY with 10kW day and 1kW night. The station had been promoting a move to a new studio until the day the WABC simulcast began.
INSTANT INSIGHT: WABC owned John Catsimitidis has been attempting for years to add an additional station in the New York market. Could WRCR be his way to develop additional content for Red Apple’s syndication efforts? Or even attempt to move the station to WABC’s tower site in Lodi NJ to cover more of the New York metro?
