Acadia Broadcast Partners has flipped 106.7 KPCZ-FM Rayne/Lafayette LA to Soft Oldies “Cool 106.7” under new KWLL-FM call letters.
The new format is meant to replicate the brand heard on 96.5 KFTE from 1994 to 1996 centered around music from the 1970s, while flanking sister Classic Hits “Big 102.1” KYBG Crowley An introductory post on Facebook said, “Anyone who lived in Acadiana in the mid-1990s is likely to remember Cool 96. It was one of the most unique radio stations of that era anywhere in the US. From its first day of broadcasting until its untimely demise, Cool 96 made the rules. By casting aside conventional and often boring structured formats, Cool was exactly that… Cool!”
KPCZ-FM had spent the past three years as Alternative “106.7 Planet Radio” after partnering with operator Chris Logan’s webcaster. That brand will continue online. Logan previously served as Music Director and on-air host at the original “Planet Radio” first on 96.5 KFTE until 2010 and then on 105.1 until the station flipped to Active Rock in 2012. KFTE dropped the “Planet” brand when it flipped to Classic Rock in 2017.

The irony is that Cool 96.5 flipped to Planet Radio 96.5 in 1997, now Planet Radio 106.7 has flipped to Cool 106.7…….
