FCC Actions
The FCC has set application limits and eligibility restrictions for the non-commercial band translator filing window set to take place this fall.
Only licensees on non-commercial FMs, AMs, and LPFMs will be permitted to participate in the filing window. Full-powered station applicants will be limited to ten applications in the window, while Tribal owned LPFMs will be limited to four and other LPFM operators to just two applications. A holding period will be placed on the translator from the grant of the CP until the time the facility has completed four years of operation blocking a change to the primary station or assignment of the the translator to a new operator unless it is in conjunction with the assignment or transfer of the primary station to that same entity.
Benjamin Stratemeyer and Samuel Stratemeyer’s Sun Industries Inc. have been issued Notices of Violation at two of their southern Illinois stations. Benjamin Stratemeyer as station licensee and Sun Industries Inc. as the landowner were noted by the FCC for violations at Silent 1490 WKRO Cairo and Country 102.1 WIBV Mount Vernon. At WKRO, the station’s tower was noted by FCC inspectors for its paint not being maintained and not having proper lighting. WIBV was noted for no proper lighting and for Sun Industries being dissolved in 2024 and not having the tower ownership change filed with the commission.
