Over the past six years iHeartMedia Sports 1460 KXNO Des Moines has gone from having the majority of its local airstaff let go, to having them rehired and the station adding an FM simulcast on 106.3 KXNO-FM Ankeny, and becoming a statewide network in August 2024, to now having its lineup gutted yet again.
As part of the massive restructuring going on at the company, KXNO and the statewide “Iowa Sports Network” heard on “Sports Radio 95.7” KOSY-FM Anamosa/Cedar Rapids, 620 KMNS Sioux City, 800 KXIC Iowa City, and 1230 WFXN Moline IL/Quad Cities have cut ties with its morning and afternoon shows.
“The 1st Quarter” hosted by Heather Burnside and Alec Busse and producer Tyler Allen that aired from 6-9am and the afternoon drive “Off The Bench with Sean Roberts and Lucas Strain” have both come to an end. Roberts also served as Program Director of KXNO.
Also departing the station separately is 10am-12pm co-host Ken Miller as he will retire at the end of the week. Miller’s co-host Trent Condon will be joined by “Locked on Cyclones Podcast” host Nick Marovets starting on Monday, June 29.
Earlier today after our show myself as many others were laid off at IHeart Des Moines. I’m not angry or am going to blame anyone…it’s part of the business. You can have good ratings, good revenue etc…Doesn’t matter…your number on that excel sheet can be picked any day.

The most important things to me are friends and family, and you're all part of that. With that being said here's a picture of our dog and I'm no longer at KXNO and The Bus. THANK YOU so much for listening and being part of my extended family! Is the portal open? pic.twitter.com/ijoKEvIF5P

If you're reading this, you've probably figured out by now that we all got laid off today.
I just want to give the biggest of thanks to @Sean23Roberts and @thelucasstrain, as well as everyone else involved in KXnO.

Some personal news: Unfortunately, today I was informed that it was my last day with @KXnO1063 and @KXnO1stQuarter. The last year talking sports across Iowa has been a pleasure. Thank you to all the listeners, callers and people who interacted with us.
