iHeartMedia’s “Sports Talk 790” KBME Houston is refreshing its lineup following the layoffs that took place in late June.
Matt Thomas and Ross Villarreal will move from middays to mornings starting Monday, August 24. Thomas, who also serves as radio play-by-play voice for the NBA’s Houston Rockets, has hosted middays on KBME since 2010. Villarreal has been with the station since 2009 serving as a producer and host with roles including weekend host, co-hosting “The Night Cap with Michael Connor”, and hosting pre and post-game shows for the Houston Astros and Rockets.
Current morning host Dan Mathews will move to the 10am to 2pm timeslot. Mathews and Cole Thompson had taken over the morning show last November until Thompson’s exit in the company’s June layoffs.
Mathews had been serving as Salisbury’s producer and co-host. He joined KBME in 2023 serving as a producer for the station’s afternoon and evening shows before moving to mornings. The Houston native previously worked at 610 KILT from 2009-12 before spending many years in Atlanta at 92.9 WZGC and 680 WCNN as a host, reporter, and doing play-by-play.
Region Program Director Bryan Erickson said, “We’re excited to have Matt and Ross bringing their unique blend of energy, insight and humor to mornings. They’ve built a strong connection with Houston sports fans, and we’re confident they’ll be a great way to start the day. We’re equally excited for Dan Mathews to take over middays, where his deep sports knowledge and strong local perspective will continue to serve listeners throughout the day.”
