After stunting all weekend, Connoisseur Media Classic Rock “96.9 The Rock” WWUZ Bowling Green/Fredericksburg VA relaunched this morning as Rock “96.9 The Cannon“.
Now positioning at “Whatever Rocks”, the move comes with a playlist shift described as “Classics, 90s, and Now”. The station name comes from the region’s significance during the Civil War. Along with the rebrand comes a new on-air lineup led by Compass Media Networks’ “Free Beer & Hot Wings” being added for mornings from 5-10am. Recently appointed cluster Operations Manager Ian Rambo will host middays with former morning host Brady D’Angelo moving to afternoons.
Rambo commented, “”As P.O.D. sang, ‘Here comes the boom!’ We’re taking the rock our listeners already love and we’re giving them more of it! From the classics that built the format to the biggest rock hits of the past 25 years. If it rocks, it belongs on The Cannon. The name is a nod to Fredericksburg’s history, and the sound is built for the people who live here. The frequency hasn’t changed, but everything else just got a little louder.
The move shifts WWUZ away from directly competing with the big signaled Classic Rock stations in both adjacent markets in WBIG-FM Washington and WKLR Richmond and giving it a more unique niche after it had a 1.6 share in the Spring 2026 Nielsen Audio ratings.
