A round of leadership cuts took place last week at SummitMedia’s corporate offices in Birmingham.
Among those exiting the company were SVP/Programming Maurice DeVoe, SVP/Creative Director Val Nicholas and VP/Engineering John McGinley.
DeVoe joined SummitMedia in March 2020 as Operations Manager for the company’s Greenville SC cluster and rose to SVP/Programming in July 2024 overseeing the company’s Hip Hop and Rhythmic CHR stations. Prior to SummitMedia, DeVoe was Program Director of iHeartMedia Hip Hop “100.3 The Beat” KMJM-FM St. Louis and spent sixteen years at Cumulus Media in Dallas and Kansas City where he was also Corporate PD for Urban and Rhythmic formats.
J’Michael Francois, who joined SummitMedia as VP/Programming for R&B and Gospel in July 2024, has absorbed DeVoe’s role leading the Hip Hop and Rhythmic CHR stations.
Nicholas had been with SummitMedia since November 2018 to “accelerate creative innovation” with the company’s Sales, Marketing, Programming and Event leadership teams. He joined the company after eighteen years at NBC where roles included VP/Creative Director for NBC News and VP/Marketing for MSNBC. He has also held roles as VP/Special Projects for ABC Entertainment, Creative Director for NBC Entertainment, and Executive Producer of KCRA-TV Sacramento.
McGinley had led engineering at SummitMedia since July 2023 after four years as Director of Technical Operations for Audacy Portland and Seattle. He has also held engineering roles at WFUV New York, Fisher Communications Missoula MT, both CBS Radio and Entercom Portland OR, iHeartMedia Seattle, and the Telos Alliance.
Vice President of Information Technology Brett Glover will add oversight of engineering.
