Apple Community Broadcasting is attempting to bring another translator closer to New York City. While its 106.3 W293BU remains in limbo, its 101.5 W268AN Plainview, NY has applied to move its tower about 12 miles west on the Long Island Expressway. From its new tower, just over the border separating Queens from Nassau County, the translator will operate with 10 watts.
Another translator will attempt to move to Austin, TX. Big Bend Broadcasting has applied to move 105.5 K288FJ from Bastrop, TX to Austin where it will rebroadcast an HD subchannel of Border Media’s 92.5 KXXS with 99 watts. Big Bend Broadcasting acquired 105.5 last year in a swap with Emmis for 102.7 K274AX after Emmis was unable to move 105.5 into Austin.
The FCC has approved EMF’s application for 102.5 W273BL Akron, OH to upgrade from 10 watts to 74 watts. The translator will rebroadcast Clear Channel’s 98.1 WKDD-HD2, most likely bringing News/Talk 640 WHLO to the FM dial.
Clear Channel has closed on its purchase of 93.5 W228BY Allapattah, FL from Way Media. The translator has also been granted a CP to move to downtown Miami where it will simulcast News/Talk 610 WIOD with 250 watts from the top of One Biscayne Tower. WIOD also rebroadcasts on 100.3 W262AN Tamarac, FL covering the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale portions of the market.
EMF Broadcasting has applied to upgrade 107.5 K298BK Sandia, NM from 99 watts to 250 watts along with a move to 94.5. The translator currently rebroadcasts Vanguard Media’s 1600 KRKE as Oldies “Cool 107.5“.
EMF and Clear Channel are working with a third party, Reach Media to upgrade a translator in Jacksonville, FL. EMF’s 102.3 W272BG Jacksonville Beach will slide to 101.9 to enable Reach’s 102.1 W271AP Jacksonville to move to 102.3 where it will increase in power from 7 to 99 watts. 102.1 will rebroadcast an HD subchannel of Clear Channel’s 105.3 WJGH following the boost.
104.7 W284BW Franklin Township, NJ has signed on rebroadcasting Classical 91.1 WWFM Trenton in much of Middlesex and Somerset counties in Central NJ.
Beasley Broadcasting has purchased 95.5 W238AU Augusta, GA from Edgewater Broadcasting in order to rebroadcast Spanish 1480 WGUS. The translator has applied to upgrade from 10 to 250 watts.
A pair of major market translator moves are facing oppositions to its upgrades. Cox Media has filed a petition for reconsideration against Cumulus’ Modern Rock “99X” W255CJ Atlanta following its move to 98.9 and upgrade to 250 watts. Cox is claiming interference to AC “B98.5” WSB-FM.
Hope Christian Church’s Construction Permit to increase 104.9 W285EJ White Marsh, MD from 10 to 250 watts is facing opposition from Salem Media’s due to perceived interference to 105.1 WAVA-FM Arlington, VA. W285EJ is set to rebroadcast a subchannel of CBS’ 101.9 WLIF.
