WLRX Shifts To Classic Country

107.1 The Bear WLRX Ironton Huntington ComedyWest Virginia lost not one, but both of its Comedy outlets on Monday.

The Aloha Stations Trust flipped “Comedy 107.1” WLRX Ironton, OH/Huntington, WV to Classic Country “107.1 The Bear“. The new format will compete against Fifth Avenue Broadcasting’s “Big Buck 101.5” WXBW while flanking Clear Channel cousin 103.3 WTCR.

Interesting that CC/Aloha and Kindred (Fifth Ave.) with both have high-power (and highly-rated) country stations flanked by classic country outlets. 107.1 WLRX has tried several formats over the past 15 or so years, and I wonder if it generates (or is expected to generate with the new format) more revenue as a stand-alone station versus when it served as a simulcast of 106.3 WAMX.
