The gold-based Country marketplace is getting a tad bit crowded in Chattanooga.
A couple weeks after Cumulus flipped Classic Hits 107.9 WOGT to their Nash Icon brand, iHeartMedia has dropped Urban “96.1 The Beat” W241AF Rossville, GA/100.7 WUSY-HD2 and replaced it with a 90s centric Classic Country format “US101 The Legend 96.1“.
The move expands the dominant in the market “US101” 100.7 WUSY brand to a second frequency and gives the Chattanooga market its third gold-based Country signal along with WOGT and Bahakel Communications’ “Q97.3/99.3” WUUQ South Pittsburg/99.3 W257AZ Lookout Mountain.
iHeartMedia states that the new Legend will focus on “80s, ’90s, and early 2000’s country that has gotten lost and forgotten by country radio,” while 100.7 focuses on current hits.
It’s worth mentioning that “The Legend” was the name of
iHeartClear Channel’s first Classic Country station in Chattanooga, for several years in the late ’00s, before it became what’s now 98.1 the Lake.
