Elroy Smith Walks Away From Chicago Translator Purchase; Named Summit Media Greenville OM
The deal that was to be the single highest price paid for a single FM translator will not come to pass.
Elroy Smith’s Integrity Radio Communications is walking away from its $4.6 million purchase of 100.7 W264BF Englewood, IL from CSN International. Smith instead will head to Greenville, SC where he has been named Operations Manager for SummitMedia’s four stations.
Smith had agreed to purchase W264BF in July 2014. It is currently licensed with 2 watts at 442.2 meters from the top of the Willis Center with a Construction Permit to increase to 10 watts (Coverage Map) that has been held up by objections by Digity Media’s “Q-Rock 100.7” WRXQ Coal City, IL due to interference claims.
Smith will join SummitMedia’s Greenville, SC cluster on April 1 where he will oversee Variety Hits “97.7 Chuck-FM” W249CB Greenville, CHR “Hot 98.1” WHZT Williamston, Alternative “X98.5” W253BG Arial, and Urban AC “107.3 Jamz” WJMZ-FM Anderson.
Smith was Operations Manager of Radio One Philadelphia and Inspirational format director overseeing the company’s Gospel formatted stations from 2007 until early 2014. Prior to that he spent 15 years in Chicago as Program Director of Clear Channel Urban 107.5 WGCI. He also held Operations Manager duties and programmed Urban AC “V103” 102.7 WVAZ and Gospel “Inspiration 1390” WGRB at times during his Chicago tenure.
