Update 10/9: “Star 103” KJSR will relaunch as “Rock 103 Tulsa” at 12am tonight with the Billy Madison Show debuting in the morning.
“Rock 103” will remain Classic Rock albeit shifting from a 70s focus to a 80s center with 90s tracks added similar to the changes made last month at sister 96.5 WKLR Richmond.
Original Report 10/5: New morning shows are coming to a trio of Tulsa stations along with a possible relaunch of one as a former show returns to town, the longtime mainstays depart, and a third moves from one station to another.
Phil Stone and Brent Douglas who have hosted mornings on Rock 97.5 KMOD for the past 27 years have departed as Clear Channel did not renew their contracts. The duo were originally supposed to come back for a final week before departing on October 12.
Replacing them at KMOD will be “The Big Mad Morning Show” hosted by Corbin Pierce and Biggie Shay. The duo currently air on sister Rhythmic CHR “92.1 The Beat” KTBT but will slide over to KMOD on Monday, October 22. No replacements have been named at KTBT yet.
Billy Madison, who has had runs in mornings at KTBT and “106.9 K-Hits” KHTT will return on Cox’s Classic Rock “Star 103” KJSR. Madison is currently based at Cox’s Rock 99.5 KISS San Antonio and is syndicated to WFYV Jacksonville and WHPT Tampa. Madison will begin airing on an unspecified date in Mid-October.
Could Madison be accompanied by a relaunch of KJSR? Anonymous domain registrations were made for Rock1033.com, Rock103Tulsa.com, and Rock1033Tulsa.com yesterday.
Classic Rock 103 is a bit harder than Star 103. This change could be because the same classic rock songs are becoming “Tired” It is cool to hear Nirvana on the station now. Also they can take on KMOD 97.5. I really do wish they would upgrade their online stream though. Listening to 103.3 in the office is a bit difficult so i listen to them on the computer.
