“Shotgun” Tom Kelly is leaving afternoons at CBS Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH Los Angeles. Kelly has been with KRTH since 1997 after a long radio career including multiple stops in San Diego and a brief runs at KRIZ Phoenix and KFRC San Francisco. He will remain with the station as its Ambassador with on-air features, personal appearances, client partnerships, charitable events and special projects. Kelly will also explore more opportunities in television and digital media. No replacement for his 3-7pm afternoon slot has been named.
Chris Ebbott is returning to CBS Los Angeles from Toronto to program Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH. Ebbott has programmed Bell Media CHR “Virgin Radio 99.9” CKFM for the past four years and also programmed Classic Hits “Boom 97.3” CHBM prior to its sale to Newcap last year. Prior to heading to Toronto Ebbott spent seven years as OM of Variety Hits “93.1 Jack-FM” KCBS-FM and has also programmed Hot AC “Mix 95.7” WMWX Philadelphia and Alternative “101.5 The Zone” KZON Phoenix. Ebbott replaces former KRTH and sister Urban AC “94.7 The Wave” KTWV PD Rick Thomas. Thomas transferred to New York to relaunch CHR 92.3 WNOW-FM as “92.3 Amp Radio“. A new PD has yet to be named for KTWV.
Amidst the possibility of the station rebranding as “Amp Radio“, CBS CHR “92.3 Now” WNOW-FM New York has brought in a new Program Director from the market where the Amp brand is based. Rick Thomas, who has been serving as PD of sister Urban AC “94.7 The Wave” KTWV and Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH Los Angeles will be transferring to New York to take the reins of 92.3 Now immediately. Thomas has a long history at CHR programming KYLD San Francisco, KSFM Sacramento, and XHTZ San Diego. His Los Angeles position will be filled at a later date. Update 12/30: More cuts have come to a few CBS clusters. In Chicago, two veteran air-personalities are out. Robert Feder reports that AAA 93.1 WXRT night host Tom Marker has had his position elimnated after 33 years at the station. At sister Country 99.5 WUSN, midday host Trish Biondo didn’t have her contract renewed after 27 years at the station. At Alternative “Live 105” KITS San Francisco, Steve Masters is out of mornings after just 9 months. And in Washington, Hot AC “94.7 Fresh-FM” WIAD loses middayer Kristie McIntyre.
