Rick Thomas Joins Cox Media Group Tampa As Operations Manager

Cox Media Group has appointed Rick Thomas as Operations Manager of its six Tampa stations and Director of Branding and Programming for CHR “Hot 101.5” WPOI. Thomas exited his position as PD of CBS CHR “92.3 Amp Radio” WBMP New York last month following the expiration of his contract. Cumulus Alternative “101 WKQX” Chicago has announced the addition of three new staffers. Christine ‘Nicci’ Nunez joins the station as producer of Brian Phillips and Lou Lombardo’s morning show. Cox Media Classic Rock 102.3 WBAB Babylon, NY morning hosts Roger Luce and John “JP” Parise are adding middays at sister Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT Tampa. Roger and JP have hosted mornings at WBAB since 1999 and will remain in that slot along with adding the 11am-2pm shift at WHPT. Update 10/29: September and most of October have come and gone and Bubba The Love Sponge has yet to reach his stated twenty day goal of announcing a new Tampa flagship for his show. However an indication a deal may be close as a few domains were privately registered by the domain registrar normally used by Beasley last week: 987Bubba.com, Bubba987.com, and Bubba1047.com. The first two point to Sports “98.7 The Fan” WHFS-FM, which has struggled mightily since its launch in August 2012. The station registered a 0.8 share in the October PPM monthly released yesterday, up from a 0.4 just two months prior. Bubba The Love Sponge Loses Tampa Flagship

Cox Media Group is shuffling the lineup at Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT Sarasota/Tampa as Bubba The Love Sponge exits the station’s lineup. Starting Tuesday, September 2, Mike Calta’s show will move from afternoons to 6-10am. Billy Madison remains in the 10am to 12pm slot now followed by Shannon Burke from 12-3pm. Burke had joined WHPT earlier this month in the night slot as well as Star Over Orlando’s 810/93.1 WRSO Orlando. The Drew Garabo show moves from 12-3 to 3-7pm, with The Bone Daily Rewind following from 7-10pm and Loveline in late nights. WHPT Tampa’s Mike Calta Expands To Atlanta & Orlando

Cox Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT Tampa afternoon host Mike Calta is adding a second show that will be syndicated to sister stations in Atlanta and Orlando. The syndication will bring the show to Cox sister News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB Atlanta and “News 96.5” WDBO Orlando. The stations will begin airing Calta’s second program from 10pm to 12am starting tonight, which will also be carried on WHPT. Until last week Calta’s entire broadcast career had been under the name “Cowhead”. Budget cuts have led to the elimination of two local shows on Cox Hot Talk “102.5 The Bone” WHPT Tampa. The Spice Show, hosted by Matt ‘Spice’ Loyd, Geo, and Jared, which aired from 7 to 10pm and Chris Fisher’s “The Fisher Experiment”, airing from 3-5am have been let go from the station. While budget cuts are being given as the reason for both shows being let go, Spice took a few veiled shots at Bone morning host Bubba The Love Sponge on Twitter, for whom he served as producer before moving up to host his own evening show.
