One year after iHeartMedia flipped Alternative “102.1 The Edge” KDGE to AC, Entercom has debuted “Alt 103.7” KVIL Dallas. Just like its similar launch in New York, KVIL is debuting with 10,000 songs commercial-free. KVIL had only rebranded as “Amp 103.7” this past January after seguing to CHR in August 2016. It was the third CHR in the market behind iHeartMedia’s “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS and Cumulus’ “Hot 93.3” KLIF-FM. Entercom Communications (NYSE: ETM) today announced that alternative rock returns to radio in the largest media market in Texas with the launch of ALT 103.7, DFW’s New Alternative. For the second time in less than a year, CBS Radio’s 103.7 KVIL Dallas will debut a new brand name. The station will take on the identity of “Amp 103.7” at 7:00am on Wednesday after taking the name “More Hits 103.7” in August 2016 when it completed its two year evolution from AC to Hot AC to CHR. The “Amp” identity launch comes following the addition of new morning host Nathan Fast, who debuted last week. KVIL is one of three CHRs in the Dallas market along with iHeartMedia’s market leading “106.1 Kiss-FM” KHKS and Cumulus’ “Hot 93.3” KLIF-FM. KVIL has trended downward in recent months from a 3.7 share in the October 2016 monthly to 2.7 in November to 2.3 in December.
CBS Radio has announced that Nathan Fast will join CHR “More Hits 103.7” KVIL Dallas for mornings starting Monday, January 9. Fast joins from nights at iHeartMedia CHR “Channel 93.3” KHTS-FM San Diego. He also hosted weekends at 102.7 KIIS-FM Los Angeles and on Macy’s in-store “Mstyleradio“. Prior to joining KHTS-FM, Fast worked at Townsquare Media CHR “103.3 Kiss-FM” KSAS-FM Boise. Leigh Ann Adam tells us that she was not let go but resigned at the end of 2016 for an offer at another station following the end of her non-compete terms. Original Report 1:00pm: Another CBS Radio station has made cutbacks as CBS CHR “More Hits 103.7” KVIL Dallas has let go of morning host Mike Kannon and middayer Leigh Ann Adam. KVIL completed its relaunch as the unwieldy named “More Hits, Less Commercials 103.7” this morning. Promoting 50 minutes of music every hour, the move completes KVIL’s transition from AC to Hot AC that began in 2014. The station is now listing core artists as including: Sia, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Nick Jonas, Ariana Grande, Calvin Harris, P!nk, Demi Lovato, Flo Rida, Meghan Trainor, Twenty One Pilots, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Britney Spears, Fifth Harmony, Maroon 5, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Adele, and Drake. CBS Radio appears poised to rebrand Hot AC 103.7 KVIL Dallas in the coming weeks. 1037YourFM.com was registered on Tuesday by CBS for potential use by the station. KVIL has branded mainly by its frequency and call letters since dropping its “103.7 Lite-FM” moniker in May 2013 as it began its evolution from AC to Hot AC. They recently completed the retooling of its on-air lineup with the addition of Kannon for mornings. CBS previously held a trademark on “Your FM” prior to abandoning it in July 2006. Our research indicates that it was a potential unused brand for what became the “Free FM” Hot Talk network. In this regard it seems like a CBS counter to the plethora of “MyFM” branded stations.
Former “I93” KLIF-FM Dallas morning host Kannon is staying in the market as he has been named the new morning host at CBS Hot AC 103.7 KVIL. Kannon fills the morning slot that has been vacant since the exit of Tony Zazza and Julie Fisk last November. His addition completes the lineup revamp KVIL began then with the move of Leigh Ann Adam and Courtney Kerr from middays to afternoons, Kory from afternoons to nights, and Sybil Summers from morning contributor to middays. Prior to coming to Dallas in 2012, Kannon worked at “Wired 96.5” WRDW-FM Philadelphia, “95.5 The Beat” WBTS Atlanta, and hosts the Sunday edition of the syndicated Open House Party.
CBS’ 103.7 KVIL Highland Park-Dallas has dropped its “103.7 Lite-FM” moniker in favor of its call letters. The rebranding concludes a gradual shift at the station that saw middayer Tony Zazza and Julie Fisk take over the vacant morning slot following the departure of Gene and Julie Gates earlier this year. The midday slot is now being held by Jonathan Doll, while Leigh Ann remains in afternoons. With the dropping of the “Lite-FM” branding, the music has shifted a bit more brighter and recurrent based. The station is now positioning itself as “The Best Variety Of The 90’s, 2K, and Today” as it hands off all earlier music to sister Variety Hits “100.3 Jack-FM” KJKK and Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV. KVIL began using the “103.7 Lite-F...[Read More]
